What is a Grihapraveshapuja?

Grihapravesh Puja is a traditional Hindu housewarming ceremony performed to bless a new home and ensure the well-being, prosperity, and happiness of its occupants. The term "Grihapravesh" is derived from Sanskrit, where "Griha" means "house" and "Pravesh" means "entry." The puja (ritual) is conducted before moving into a new home and is considered an important milestone in Hindu culture.

What is the Purpose of a Grihapravesha Puja?

- To seek blessings from deities like Lord Ganesha, Vastu Purusha (the deity of the dwelling), and other gods for protection, prosperity, and harmony.

Apoorva Grihapravesha : Performed when moving into a newly constructed house for the first time.

Sapoorva Grihapravesha : Conducted when re-entering a house after a long period of absence or after significant renovations.

Dwandwah Grihapravesha : Done when moving into a house that was previously owned by someone else.

Other info about the puja

The ceremony is performed on an auspicious date and time (muhurat) determined by a Hindu priest or astrologer. The family enters the home with the wife leading, carrying a kalash (sacred pot) or lit lamp. Offerings of flowers, fruits, and sweets are made to the deities.
